EYE SEE YOU
For me, the only feature of the face that you need to emphasize more is your eyes. After all, the eyes are windows to the soul. To put accent on your peepers, you only need one eye makeup product in your life, the Eyeliner.
In general, eyeliners are used to define and shape the eyes. They can make your eyes appear wider or bigger. There are different types of eyeliners: Powder-based eye pencil, Wax-based eye pencil, Liquid eyeliner, Kohl eyeliner, Gel eyeliner, and Solid gel automatic pencil.
My earliest memory of eyeliner takes me back to the moment when I saw my mother applying her jet-black eyeliner pencil on her bottom waterline. Maybe it was just her thing or the era’s craze at that time but I am sure that it made a great impact on me because in my mind I thought eyeliners can only be applied on bottom waterline — that’s above the lashes of the lower lid. It surely makes me laugh every time I think about it.
Well, fast forward to 2009… My discovery of gel liners happened and changed my life completely since then. Without any fuss, let’s get on with it and let’s all check out my favorite gel liner of all time and the tool I use to apply it.
THE BEST DUO IN TOWN
(US$16.50 or PHP1,100.00 for 3g / 0.1 US oz)
A long-wearing, smudge-proof gel liner
($20.00 or PHP1,400.00)
A brush with a precise angled tip
These were the first two things I purchased when I started getting into makeup back in the day. I learned about them through watching a video tutorial on YouTube. This was the time that I felt I needed to buy exact things that the beauty guru was telling me. I was too ignorant, heh. Anyway, it was a great buy and right now I’ve already finished up two pots and this is my third one. Onto the brush, you are looking at my second one because I’ve messed up my first due to carelessness so I swore I will take good care of this brush. It has been in my possession for few years now and it’s still perfect for everything: Lining, smudging, eyebrow blending, etc.

MAC Fluidline’s formula is so smooth, which gives a precised, softer finish. However, for first timers, the thought of applying your gel liner through the dip-and-stroke action using a brush might be a little intimidating for you but once you get the hang of it, you should be fine. Although, I must admit that I still feel fairly tense every application. I am afraid to make mistakes, I guess.
COMPARISON / DIFFERENCE
I always go for a simple lining. On a usual day, I would just make a thin line above my upper lashes, use the excess product halfway below my lower lashes, and call it a day. I do this style for myself because I own a pair of small, close-set eyes and I need them to look bigger and appear stretched away from my nose bridge. On the other hand, I look silly, in my opinion, whenever I line my bottom all the way so I rarely do that.

I wear eyeliner almost everyday, and the MAC Fluidlines are my favorite gel liners out there. Blacktrack is the one I haven’t tried, but I own three others in brown, violet and blue.
