ON DRY RUN

I have a confession to make:  I have been lately obsessed with nude eye makeup.  Gone are the days when I would trot out heavy smokey eyes in the middle of the day and would call it my signature look.

Today, I just want to share a new makeup product in my dresser, which I have been using this week.  It’s called MAC Pro Longwear Painterly Paint Pot.  To be honest, I currently have a love-hate relationship with this one.  Read more to find out why!

LET’S PAINT PAINTERLY

The MAC Pro Longwear Painterly Paint Pot (PHP1,350/$21 for 5g) is a very pigmented and very creamy eyeshadow.  It creates an intense nude beige color once settled on the lids.  MAC claims that their Pro Longwear Paint Pots are long-wearing and provide a seamless coverage without weight or caking.

Since it’s cream-based, it can be worn alone.  However, most users believed that this can be used as an eyeshadow base, too, as it can be mixed with other eyeshadows and eyeliners.  Painterly has a matte finish and has cool undertones.

TRY PART I

On my first attempt, I just used my ring finger to apply Painterly all over my lids.  It dries fast and I was caught in an unguarded moment.  I wanted to glide my fingertips and blend it more but it was already too late so I ended up getting an uneven application.  Take note: I wore it solo.  No primer underneath.

TRY PART II

On my second attempt, this time the application was a lot better than the first try as I was kind of anticipating the fast drying time of this formula.  I used a concealer brush and my fingertips in between.  I love the results I got so far but I hope to be better each time.

I still wish to make this as my eyeshadow primer because I believe its creaminess and staying power are great but I did put some eye primer here before Painterly for this look.  I wore it for like four hours or more and it perfectly stayed in place.  Also, I lightly blended my crease, outer-v, and brow bone with few neutral eyeshadows here.

FAVORABLY, UNFAVORABLY PAINTERLY

The MAC Pro Longwear Painterly Paint Pot is perfect for those who are looking for a standalone eyeshadow and for those who are looking for a real vibrant and intense color.  This can be your go-to item once you’ve mastered its application.  If you got cool undertones, this shade is great for eyeshadow base as it may look invisible to some skin tones, and if you got warm undertones (like me), on the other hand, it will definitely show up against your skin beautifully!

The MAC Pro Longwear Painterly Paint Pot might be slightly intimidating for some first-time users.  Just be reminded that this shade has a matte finish and based on my observation, it may dry up quick if left on lids unattended.  Tip: Try to let the product dry first before you make another layer.

NICE DISTINCTION

I love how the MAC Pro Longwear Painterly Paint Pot brightens up my eyes.  I love this shade so much and now I am very interested to buy the other shades like the Groundwork and the Rubenesque.

  1. I have been itching to get a hold of this and Soft Ochre for the longest, longest time! I was actually about to get one of those last weekend but opted to get the MSF Natural instead haha. Anyway, I’m glad you were able to make the application work 🙂

  2. Ohhhh I also have this… but I rarely use it. It kinda comes off too light for my lids. I tend to reach more at my Rubenesque Paint Pot. Though it looks gorgeous on you! xoxo
