Two Things I Learned While Wearing this Formal Dress

DO YOU LOVE WEDDINGS? I DO.

One of my female cousins is getting married early next year and I could feel the excitement bubbling up inside of me!  You know, it has been a long time since someone in the family tied the knot.  While the complete details are still in the distance, I have been daydreaming to attend a Black Tie dress code event for a while now where I could wear a floor-length gown from Formal Dresses Brisbane.

In our world today — where almost everybody is comfortable wearing pair of shorts and jeans — it is difficult to find an excuse to wear a long gown, right?

Did you know that most malls here are open from 10AM to 9PM?  In fact, our place is surrounded by three malls.  Me and my little one are self-confessed mall rats and our afternoons are usually dedicated to visiting toy stores.  However, this afternoon, I told my daughter that I wanted to check out few dresses before we head to Toys “R” Us – Her most favorite place in the world, btw.  Glad that she said yes!  I was lucky enough that I was able to wear this dress before she started to be a pain in the neck and an impatient toddler once again.  The struggle is real, folks!

So here are the couple of things I learned while wearing this formal dress:

i. Short-legged women can wear floor-length dresses too!

I’ve always thought that tall girls are the luckiest people that they can wear anything, and I’ve always considered that I am going to look like a fashion victim if I wore floor-length evening dresses — I only stand 5 feet tall, body is kind of proportioned though, which is a good thing.  At least, that’s the idea I’d like to believe in, heh, and my husband who is an anatomy expert told me so — But when I saw myself in front of the mirror, I realized that long dresses can actually make me appear taller as if I had long legs in real life.  What a great eye-opener!

ii. I can rock a pair of four-inch wedge shoes!

It’s funny that the store had a four-inch wedge shoes inside their fitting room.  Its main purpose is for you to imagine and see in action what would be the dress look like if you wore shoes.

Have you ever gotten an invitation to attend a Black Tie (or White Tie whoahhh that’s major!) or a similar gathering?  What did you wear?  I am so jealous.  Would someone invite me too?  Now I will just drool over these formal dresses online.  Until next time!

PS. When I took this picture, the zipper at the back of the dress was still unzipped.  *laughs*

  1. I think the only “floor-length” dresses I’ve ever worn are maxi dresses. LOL I love those! They are so, so comfy! And they actually make me look slimmer. 🙂

  2. It’s been a while, since someone in my family tied the knot. It went by generations among the cousins, so there was a point when there was at least one person getting married each year for three consecutive years. There’s a lull now, because the batch I’m in is next. But no one’s in a hurry. Haha. Because of that, I tend to get a little stingy with formal dresses. I might not get much wear out of them, so I chose classic pieces I can probably recycle at another event.
